Monumento Nacional e Património Mundial (UNESCO), a Torre de Belém é um símbolo identitário da cidade de Lisboa e de Portugal no mundo. Classified as a National Monument and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Torre de Belém is regarded as the identifying landmark for the city of Lisbon and Portugal. Built between 1514 and 1519 to defend the entrance to the River Tagus, it has since acquired its own special historical and artistic importance. Consisting of a tower and a bulwark, its unique architectural structure is enhanced by its fascinating decorative programme.
