The official Portuguese representation, in 2022, at the Venice Art Biennale is the largest ever Portuguese presence at this Biennale.

Pedro Neves Marques represents Portugal at the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale with the project “Vampires in Space”, the paintings from the series "Metamorfose" by Paula Rego, exhibited in the Central Pavilion, at the invitation of the Bienal's curator, and the artists Pedro Cabrita Reis, Mónica de Miranda and Diana Policarpo stand out with individual exhibitions.

213 artists from 58 countries participate in this Venice Art Biennale. Metamorphosis and symbiosis are key words in this 59th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, divided into three themes: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses, the relationship with technologies, and the connection between bodies and the planet Earth.

The theme of this year's edition "The Milk of Dreams", title of the book by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), was chosen by the general curator Cecilia Alemani.
