Museu Nacional dos Coches

The Museu dos Coches was created in the old Paddock of the Palace of Belém, on May 23, 1905, by D. Amélia de Orleans and Braganza, wife of D. Carlos I, who thus preserved the important collection of vehicles from the Royal House. It is a unique collection in the world, with coaches, berlines, carriages, cabriolets, phaetons, coupes, chaises and chairs, all richly decorated. On May 23, 2015, most of the collection was transferred to the building built from scratch by the Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, making it an additional reason to visit this extraordinary collection.
