With the creation of the diocese of Vila Real (1922), the former church of the S. Domingos convent, founded in 1424, during the reign to D. João I was adapted to a Cathedral. The work was carried out throughout the 15th century, which is manifested in the Gothic design of the main portal with a broken arch with archivolts, topped by an oculus in the central body. It is a sober building, with three staggered naves, transept and a rectangular chancel, renovated in the 18th century.
