A rock castle built in the 12th century, it was initially the center of royal authority in Terras de Miranda. Around 1224, D. Sancho II donated the castle to the Hospitallers, who made significant work on it, namely the keep and the vaulted cistern that still exist today. From the end of the 13th century it becomes a 2nd line castle, being abandoned in the 17th century.
