The Capela de São Frutuoso de Montélios is a unique example of Roman-Byzantine art in the country and is considered one of the most fascinating monuments of the early medieval in the Iberian Peninsula. The date of construction is not clear. If for some time this was thought to be the chapel-mausoleum of São Frutuoso, today stronger arguments point to a chronology around the beginning of the 10th century are stronger, when the cult of the bishop was renewed, in the context of Afonso III's repopulation. The Convent of São Francisco, from the 17th century, kept the chapel as an annex. It presents a centralized plan, with four apses around a quadrangular wayside cross.
