The Museu José Malhoa presents the largest collection of works by its patron, as well as an important collection of paintings and sculpture from the 19th and 20th centuries, revealing itself to those who visit it as the museum of Portuguese naturalism. Classified as a building of public interest since 2002, with an excellent location in the magnificent Parque D. Carlos I in Caldas da Rainha, it was the first building designed for museological purposes in Portugal. The Museum José Malhoa has a unique importance in the history of our culture as a pioneer in Portuguese museology, both for its architectural concept and for the application of conservation and adaptation principles to the painting and sculpture collection it exhibits, giving it a definitive place in the cultural history of the discipline.
