The Museu Monográfico de Conimbriga mission is to protect the Ruins, promote their exposure to the public and continue with the archaeological research. The collection is exclusively composed of the archaeological materials collected in the City. The current permanent exhibition presents the objects of daily use, evokes the monumental Forum, the wealth of the domus, the strength of its commerce, the religion and beliefs of the Romanized population and the suevo-visigothic presence. Noteworthy are the mosaics preserved in situ and the Casa dos Repuxos, which has a mosaic paved area, important traces of mural painting and a central gardened peristyle with a lake and water games. The ruins of the Roman city of Conimbriga have been known since the 16th century. The State acquired the first terrains, and in the 40s and the 50s of the 20th century works of reconstruction and consolidation of the ruins are carried out, with the inauguration, in 1962, of the Museu Monográfico de Conimbriga.
