The CPF's main duties are to promote the knowledge and the enjoyment of the photographic heritage of which it is a custodian.
It also promotes the safeguarding and enhancement of the archival and photographic heritage, carries out the archival treatment of species, and has been developing and implementing instruments and systems for description, research and access to the documents.
It is also in charge of the management and continuity of the National Photography Collection, a unique set of photographic documents of high importance and national interest.
