The District Archives are regional archives with specific attributions regarding the territory in which they are located. Their aim is to promote knowledge and the enjoyment of the archival heritage, and to guarantee of the rights of the State and the citizens, namely through the use of those documents in the administrative activity.
It is within the scope of these duties that the Arquivo Distrital do Porto incorporates and enhances the documentation of the civil registry, notary offices, courts and ceasing public services - and other institutions holding archives of undeniable value -, while providing consultancy and technical support to archiving institutions and other entities.
This intervention, aimed at documental collections that have acquired the right to be permanently preserved, promotes their incorporation, encourages donations and deposits of files that, when organized and described, allow the user to reference what they are looking for and access the information.
