The Direção Geral das Artes (DGArtes) is an organization of the Ministry of Culture of Portugal, whose mission is to coordinate and implement policies to support the arts in Portugal. Its priority is to promote and qualify artistic creation, as well as ensuring its enjoyment is open to all.

Main duties: To propose and coordinate structural measures in the areas of visual arts, performing arts and subject crossing; to implement financial support programs aimed at the arts sector, consolidating and renewing the Portuguese artistic fabric; to promote equal access to the arts; to strengthen the international projection of Portuguese artists and other cultural agents; to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue, articulating intersectoral policies that cross the arts with science, education, economy, and tourism, among others; to ensure and foster the production of specific knowledge about this sector; to promote and publicize the national artistic creation, ensuring the registration, edition and publicizing of documents and works related to the arts; to carry out projects and actions contributing to the valorization of the arts industry and its professionals.

Activities and projects: Implementation of financial support programs for professional activity in the areas of visual arts, performing arts and disciplinary crossing; Support for Internationalization and External Cultural Action; Official Portuguese Representations at the Prague Quadrennial "Performance Design and Space" and at the International Art and Architecture Exhibitions at the Venice Biennale; Support for the activity of Regional Orchestras; Support for Cultural Associations; the organization of Hearings in Portugal for the European Union Youth Orchestra; Management of the Portugal Som collection, within the scope of traditional, classical and contemporary music by Portuguese authors.
