The Supper at Emmaus by Charles de la Fosse

One of the most renowned disciples of the French master Charles le Brun, Charles de la Fosse (1636-1716), left in 1662 for a two-year trip to Italy where he visited Rome and Venice, where he discovered Veronese's painting. The Supper at Emmaus canvas that is now on display at the MNAA – within the scope of the partnership developed with the Gaudium Magnum Foundation/Coleção Maria e João Cortez de Lobão – reflects well the decisive influence of Veronese on the work of Charles de la Fosse.
