Artemis appears to Admetus and Alcestis and Iphigenia in Aulis by Sebastiano Ricci
By one of the most notable artists of the Italian Baroque, Sebastiano Ricci (1659-1734), the MNAA will exhibit two important works, within the scope of the partnership with the Gaudium Magnum Foundation/Art Collection Maria e João Cortez de Lobão. Although dealing with two themes from classical mythology – Artemis appears in Admetus and Alcestis and Iphigenia in Aulis – these two superb canvases are testament to the modernity of Ricci’s internationalized style, heir to the Venetian colorist tradition and precursor, in many ways, of rocaille painting.
